The Creatures of The Ranch, Track 3

July 13 – 2022

~ 500

Two-legged carnivores

A flock of mini-dinosaurs

Curious and unruly, you might think they’re cats

Except that their diet consists of grain and gnats

Try to organize them into a nice row

Try till your head hits the pillow

Don’t fall asleep with them looking at you

As if you’re potentially a tasty view

Running with two legs, their head doesn’t bounce

Like a velociraptor, they’re ready to pounce

Eyes locked on the prize

Those winged snacks called flies

A sprint, a run, a chase

Hurry hurry, it’s a race

Gotta be the first to the bread

Nothing being left is what they dread

Moonwalking all day

Moonwalking for their pay

Moonwalking to the equator

As taught by their Creator

All of them could be busy, focused on the ground

In an instance they all freeze without a sound

Look! A mile above, too far to even make a shadow

There’s a hawk, circling the meadow

A minute or two goes by, and the spell

Suddenly breaks, like someone rang a bell

A goose, or a duck flies overhead

They pay no attention; these birds cause no dread

A collection of individuals, all in sync

Without a sound they change in a blink

Something circles in the sky, they all pause

They know how to avoid the falcon’s claws

Moonwalking all day

Moonwalking for their pay

Moonwalking to the equator

As taught by their Creator

Moving the ground with their feet

Is an incredible feat

Their propensity is to mine

By small pieces of dirt at a time

A great spray of dust behind them

As they search for the ant den

Scratching through the surface

Strong talons help achieve their purpose

Bugs stand no chance, and grasshoppers hop away

With laser focus they stalk their prey

Earthworms are just as susceptible

All these things the Raptors find delectable

Moonwalking all day

Moonwalking for their pay

Moonwalking to the equator

As taught by their Creator

Kings and queens of the roost

Using their wings for a boost

They wake up in the morning wearing their crowns

Made of sapphire, while wearing a feathered gown

Red sapphire on their heads, with several peaks

A dust bath because they’re clean freaks

Some dress in red ochre plumage

Others wear jet black, and count it a privilege

The kings and queens of old

Expected gifts of silver and gold

The queens of the roost are no different

Use a gift to display your deference

Except that silver and gold

On them has no hold

A gift of cheese bread; the universal favourite

They’ll even take vegetables if you’re on a budget

Those are the gifts they desire

For those they become all hyper

Surrounded by multiple pairs of eyes

All looking at you to deliver the prize

Terrifying the Doggo; is that why he twitches in his dreams?

Either way, he keeps the corners of his eyes focused on their schemes

He doesn’t trust them, but is willing to play

A chase, a run; if out of the netting they stray

Moonwalking all day

Moonwalking for their pay

Moonwalking to the center

Of the earth, as taught by their Creator

The Chameleon
